Groff Engineering is seeking a Mining Engineer for a full-time position with the firm.

Job Description

As a Mining Engineer, you will work with senior engineers and geologists to perform resource and reserve studies, assist with minerals appraisals, solve mining problems, and perform site surveys. The Mining Engineer will utilize nearly every facet of their undergraduate education to help solve problems for our clients. We are a small team of highly capable professionals that serve a diverse client base.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing mine plans in a CAD environment with Carlson Software,
  • Design mine pits for quarries and dredging operations,
  • Develop accurate geologic models,
  • Perform site surveys with small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS),
  • Assist the team with exploration work by logging core on job sites,
  • Design watershed models, sediment ponds, and other storm structures,
  • Assist with feasibility studies, including economic evaluation using cash flow models, and
  • Perform market studies for various minerals commodities.

Qualifications

The following qualifications are required.

  • Bachelor of Science, or higher degree, in Mining Engineering from an accredited university,
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate,
  • Fluency and proficiency in AutoCAD/IntelliCAD,
  • Proficiency in Carlson Mining software, and
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, etc.).

Additional qualifications that are desired include:

  • MSHA Part 48A training (40-hrs) completed,
  • FAA sUAS Pilot Certificate (Drone pilot, Part 107),
  • Proficiency using VBA with MS Excel,
  • Experience with performing slope stability studies,
  • Experience with watershed modeling software (HEC, SEDCAD, etc.), and
  • Experience with data science and R Statistics.

Additionally, the Mining Engineer will be expected to work, in person, at our Mt. Sterling, KY, office except when traveling to perform work. Regular office hours are 8 AM to 5 PM.
